1960s New York Skyline
Union Carbide Building seen from New York Central Building in 1960. Notice the classical boxes that have yet to be razed for 245 and 280 Park Avenue.
That first shot from Ellis Island is a gem. Lots of Immigrants saw that view before being allowed to proceed into the country.
I inverted this one for clarity. 1957.
Union Carbide Building under construction. Behind it is the old 277 Park Avenue. Next to that is the copper roofed Park Lexington Building and Grand Central Palace which are now 245 Park Avenue. Notice the original 383 Madison and the original 390 Madison also.

- Triangle Hardware where West Broadway and Greenwich meet. Notice the Post Office and no nasty Roth & Sons Buildings behind it.
Grand Central, 1959
Does anyone know of any pictures depicting the Grand Central Office Building? I’ve seen it in pictures, but only behind the main terminal building, or next to the photographer; never up close showing any facade detail. It was demolished in 1960 for the Pan Am Building.

Early days on Park Avenue. Notice the back facade of Grand Central with no Helmsley Building obstructing it.

Some interesting photos I found. Undated, but between 1908 and 1915. It shows the old 1890s Thames Building, which was turned into a taxpayer in the 1970s, which was recently demolished for the Marriott Courtyard south of the WTC.
- Mural being painted onto the roof of 5WTC.
What I find most interesting about this video is the background. The World Financial Center is under construction, 7WTC is in the early phases of construction, and an 11-story building and a taxpayer are being demolished for the Millenium Hilton.
- St. Paul’s Chapel, with the Golden Boy statue being removed from 195 Broadway
