makes me miss the old cladding on whats now the salesforce building. Hopefully it’ll get replaced this century.

Horrible!! Really should’ve stayed up…though if it were in 9/11 it would probably suffer the same fate
I think it probably would’ve survived; it was on the far corner of the block, so the City Investing Building probably would’ve gobbled up most of the damage, but then again it was also the more historical buildings that withstood the attacks better. I think the buildings on the site of Zuccotti Park would’ve been doomed though, judging by what happened there.
1945 Downtown lights from the hudson

I’ve never seen this image of the '77 blackout
the warning lights atop the Twins were beautifully eerie.
I wish they would have kept the facade in storage for reassembly elsewhere in the city or even the rest of the USA
“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.” - former President George W. Bush
My first memory of being so passionate about buildings and NYC was shortly after 9/11. I was 7 at the time and even living in another country those scenes were on TV all day for weeks and it was pretty shocking. The first buildings I ever drew were the Twin Towers in an Art class days after what happened and to this day drawing buildings is what I like the most. No doubt, however, I would rather not have started to like these subjects that way.
This one is always among my wallpapers
Old scanned article I found had a picture I found interesting.
New York World Building seen from the Municipal Building. January 1953.
Interestingly the author predicts it wouldn’t survive to the end of the year though it lived long enough to see part of 1956.
