Which part of the Galleria will they demolish?
Macy’s or Sears?
or both?

I think the whole thing.
201 East Post Road
this should be a fun test on how a community reacts to high density and taller buildings in a low rise municipality. They’ve been working on upzoning for a number of years now, so sentiment must lean positive.
sounds like total demolition of the mall and parking garages. The garages will be replaced.
While site plans had not yet been filed with the City of White Plains as of our publication deadline, it appeared likely that demolition of the existing mall and garages will be part of redeveloping the 10-acre site that’s been home to The Galleria at White Plains shopping mall and city-owned Lexington-Grove East & West Garages since 1980.
I’ve waited decades for this heinous eyesore to come down.
305 North Street
This beautiful building with a curved facade at the corner of South Lexington Avenue and Maple Avenue, housing Magnotta supermarket, will be demolished to make way for a hospital inpatient edifice.
I can live without that building. It’s kind of run down. I’m elated that the garage is coming down too.
I hope that Magnotta’s relocates. They have good food.
White Plains Galleria
“No pictures,” the mall’s rent-a-cop shouted at me earlier today when he saw me taking photos at the Galleria. Thankfully the local Paul Blart did not pummel or tase me. So I got out of the Galleria without getting physically assaulted, which is an achievement in itself when you see how desolate the place is.
Surprisingly he did not have me delete the photos from my phone. So without further ado, here it is - “Last days of the Galleria: The Forbidden Gallery” :
Don’t think I’ll be coming back. It is scheduled to close within the next month and will be replaced by a mixed-use high-rise complex. I feel bad for Mr. Blart - he’s getting lonelier with each passing day.
This anathema cannot close soon enough.
WP has a bright future.
I would not be surprised if The Westchester comes down within a decade. They could make a much smaller retail area that focuses only on the high-end shops and could have a lot of upscale condos.
You can tell it was glorious in the 80s, just needs some pink & blue neon lighting!!
I look forward to seeing what rises there.
I spent so many of my teenage years at the Galleria and seeing it so vacant gives me a heavy feeling in my gut. So sad to see its current state given all of my memories. I’m glad they’re moving on from it though, time to put all that land to a much better use.
Its last day of business will be March 23, and all doors will be permanently closed on March 31.
I’ve been waiting for this day for decades!!!
Did they give a timeline of when demolition will begin?
