Pedestrianize NYC

It is a shame that construction would take so long to start.

The #1 thing causing NYC’s dirty reputation is the trash problem. Chicago gets alot of hate for various reasons (some deserved, some not) but one of the things they did right was with the alley system. Chicago is spotless compared to NYC. This city is wayyy to acclimated to trash just being everywhere on the street. Even other global cities like Tokyo or London don’t have this problem

I think the new sanitation and containerization rules should help, but to your point, that still means trash bins on the streets instead of alleys

Chicago goes everyone one better! When the loop was rebuilt in the 1920s it was double decked. All the streets have a twin street underneath at the basement level. Entrances to that system are adjacent to the river and sort of hidden away. Deliveries also occur on that level. As a uresult the loop functions incredibly well.

Great that they built a pedestrian bridge over FDR. It was a real pain getting over there.

The FDR reminds me of NYC’s version of Chicago’s Lake shore drive.

Any plans to cap the FDR like how they want to in Chicago?

Nothing that I have heard of -

even if there was it won’t happen anytime soon

34th Street busway proposal moves ahead. This will close off the street for Buses only and will be a big boon for bus riders. “Anti-Car crusade” is a rather biased and anti-transit take that is on brand for the NY Post.
