I’m hard-pressed to find out what’s going on here at EWR but it doesn’t seem to be a tower they’re building which is proven through a recent (although low-res) image of what’s going on that I found. It’s a large structure that will have multiple floors that might be connected to Terminal A. No info from the Port Authority either.
They’re building a lounge, not sure for who. I saw a post about it on the contractor’s LinkedIn a while back.
I’d been wondering what this was as well and after doing a quick search it will be a 17,000 sqft AMEX Centurion Lounge to open in 2026.
I haven’t seen any renders of the outside but there is one of the inside, also a news link about the lounge.
I’m actively surprised this managed to get by without anyone noticing since it was announced last Sept.

A new low cost carrier airline is coming to EWR in November.
Not just a new airline, but a new state as well (West Virginia).
In fact, it’s been a while since Charleston WV was linked to the NYC area by direct flight.
According to the West Virginia government, Charleston is “America’s premier tourism destination.” The fact that the country’s most important tourism destination did not have a direct flight to NYC for such a long time should be a source of embarrassment and shame for everyone in the tri-state area.
“The 20 million residents of America’s largest metropolitan area finally have direct access to America’s premier tourism destination,” said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “We can’t wait for more visitors coming to enjoy our world-class outdoor recreation and unforgettable natural beauty. Many thanks are due to Governor Justice, the Legislature, the Kanawha County Commission, and the City of Charleston for their continued partnership to promote West Virginia tourism.”
This is the first time CRW has had a direct New York flight in 11 years, and its addition continues a strong positive trend
Some news regarding EWR and its renovation - the Port Authority is planning how they will handle the rest of the EWR Redevelopment as there may be some challenges ahead.

Thanks for providing a paywall bypass
So there isn’t really a plan yet. Interesting they considered congestion pricing for the airport. Hopefully there’s a more substantial update by the beginning of next year.
And reduced AirTrain fares. They backed out of doing that too.
Nothing online yet, but the PA unveiled the New Terminal B on CBS. Unfortunately they went with one of the weird development options, as opposed to the satellite config they were exploring.
Well overdue. I also noticed it’s connected airside to Terminal A and the Terminal A Lounge Extension is depicted, so we now have an idea of what that’ll look like. Big win for connectivity though with the connection to A. And yes, I agree the satellite options were better. I bet it’s cheaper to use the big non-satellite and they won’t need an underground train system to shuttle people to the satellites.
I also noticed Terminal C’s days are numbered and will meet its demise when the new B is at a certain point of completion.
The layout looks similar to the “Option 3” design I showed in November last year.
I also sourced renders.

Updated AirTrain renders:
It just made it to the online outlets.
Great stuff. Looks like in the short term they’re going to renovate Terminal C, with the long term goal of getting rid of it.
It’s strange to think that after decades of constant construction, the new Terminal B at EWR could be the last new airport terminal for the three major NYC airports for decades. What a milestone.
Amazing what’s happening in all the region’s airports almost concurrently! Love it!
The EWR AirTrain renovation is apparently underway but it’s hard to believe since they still don’t know where they’re going to put it.

They’re likely going to have to focus on the airtrain and roadway reconfigurations first since the new terminal is planned to be built west of the current one.
Can’t wait to see some renderings of the inside of the terminal and maybe they can have the airtrain station within the terminal similar to what’s happening at JFK. I wonder if they would ever consider also building gates that can accommodate the largest commercial aircraft, the A380.
It’s unlikely the AirTrain will go inside the terminal JFK style. The renders show a station on the front of the terminal.
As for the A380, I doubt it’d be even worth adding compatibility, considering it’s not even in production as of 2021. A380 support would most likely require configuring more than just the gate areas to fit such a large aircraft especially since the taxiways are close together, adding extra cost and complexity to the project that risks severely disrupting airport operations. The largest aircraft EWR currently handles is the 747 since Lufthansa uses them for a route from there so I do expect 747 support in the new B but not A380.
I lived near Newark for a while and watching the Lufthansa 747’s on final approach was always so cool. Like watching a floating skyscraper pass over you.
$55 million was authorized for planning Terminal B, a new central heating and cooling plant will be replaced along with Terminal C being expected to get a refresh until its time for its replacement as part of the vision plan.
