Walk around there, you’ll see.
Amenities have been unfinished and the base is still under construction
Would also add that the floor plans are a little awkward
Part of the scaffolding came down today - we can finally start to see the full effect - looks great! reminds me a bit of the Lincoln Center
I think this whole building is a masterpiece.
When I’m out and about photographing this, I am often solicited for my opinion, and I usually insist that people tell me what they think about it first. Strong opinions coming out against 9 DeKalb generally arise from people who desire Brooklyn to remain a low rise borough (anecdotally, these would be folks who own entire brownstones). When I asked someone from a barbershop on Bond St in downtown Brooklyn what he thought of it, he said ‘I like it…it’s like a sculpture’. I concurred.
Change is inevitable and there is no guarantee that it will be an improvement. Even though I was hoping for a more dramatic spire as in the renders, overall I think we got very lucky here.
SHoP and JDS created something that illicits a strong response. That is the best sign you can hope for that the work is of lasting value.
I honestly think the surrounding area is why (along with the tower still being unfinished) sales are slacking. The retail around here is low brow to say the least, and there are alot of kids nearby who case ruckus around barclays
sure it is now - but there are more than 10 towers being built around (most of them in the last stages) - this area will be very different in no time
This isn’t around Barclays
Less than a mile and a 10 minute walk?
Flatbush Ave is the great divider.

Just saw a Tiktok about this building saying only 20 units have been sold and it has been a flop financially. Brutal. Sad cause this building is gorgeous and has become THE building for Brooklyn.
Honestly feel like this would have been a smash success (and would have been close to sold out even before completion) if this was on the Williamsburg waterfront or DUMBO. Downtown Brooklyn isn’t there yet. Plus they’re still doing alot of construction on the base.
People get these pie in the sky ideas about building in less than prime areas. This will eventually sell but it will take a long time.
Yeah, alot of the area around DTBK is still…idk the word for it lol. But it’s far less pristine than the Domino Park area or DUMBO. But it is improving fast so only time will tell
The black building across the street (not directly) with the 7-Eleven, the Starbucks and the McDonalds at the corner is a major blight for the area with all sorts of characters.
