These are great shots man
That last one is great. I was just at the top of the Rock (in the top right) today taking pics. It’s so empty, midtown is sparse.

It really sucks Dick Cheney to see the loss of such gorgeous buildings. 140 B’Way was stunning.
The Taliban originated in NY.
As much as I love 140 Broadway currently I can’t deny that the original building was an absolute gem. I have a book from 1963 where Alan Burnham (first exec. director of the LPC) declares it as important, but by the time the Landmarks Commission could even pretend to have power it was already rubble.
That whole block was a goldmine.
How sad.
Those are amazing. I’ve never seen anything like the first 2 before, and the last one makes me realize how underrated the Syndicate Building was.

Undated, but definitely 1962 judging by 60 Broad Street being under construction
View of a 1963 Ticker tape parade; video ends with an aerial of Broadway, showing an aerial of the demolished South Street area, a brief glimpse of 60 Broadway being demolished, plus Guaranty Trust Buildings being visible. Panning over to City Hall, the Tribune Building and the neighborhood surrounding is also visible.
Most of these are from the mid 40s to early 50s but are undated.

Chase Plaza model c. 1955; the addition to Chase Plaza was only going to be a few stories, and 80 Pine was just a massive parking garage. Also note block models of buildings that were demolished in the 50s, like those by the Stock Exchange
