No. @F.Wright shares plenty of sentiments and thoughts with me and I thought it best to present myself in alignment with him.
I hope this grimey, dirty, dull, lackluster section of 34th St between 6th and 7th Ave is razed completely, pedestrianized, and filled with homeless outreach services… maybe a park. Idk. Get rid of all those generic stores.
Oh the Macys redevelopment would also contribute to the cleanup of this area.
I totally agree. The south side of 34th between 6th and 7th is disgusting. The part closer to 7th is actually fine. Old Navy is the dividing line. Everything east of it is crap. Vornado owns Old Navy and everything else to the corner. I suspect that all of the heinous, little buildings east of there are owned by different entities which would make assembling them difficult. The state should condemn them.
Idk about it being grimey/dirty, it’s not like some areas in FiDi. The dull and lackluster part is partially true like robert said, the southside is the dull side and lackluster because all the little shops with no design relation to one another, the Macy’s side is extremely clean and well kept.
Considering, like robert said, that the Old Navy and everything west of it will eventually be replaced by Tower 6 of the ESC, it’s quite possible that in the future, the small left over plots of random stores would be developed.
The only thing I can think that you are thinking of was the Garden City tower proposal that spanned 6-7th Ave and 32-34th St, though that isn’t a possible option now that Vornado owns about 75% of those 2 blocks now and they already have plans for redevelopment in the ESC.
The North side that Macy’s controls is really nice. West of 7th also is very nice. There’s great landscaping and some beautiful, old buildings.
Yes, the new developments being built on the west side of that block have also made/will make the block look better at street level, will also eventually look better once the 2 towers flanking 1 Penn are built.
My 5 block radius is just a very rough estimate. I’m just saying that area is pretty dingy
i don’t disagree, I just think your argument was a blanket statement.
I enjoy making these little depictions of developments to help show people and to let them understand the size and scale of developments and how they will impact their surroundings. One thing that I found very interesting while making the massing models for these towers, which are built according to the dimensions as mentioned within the project scope documents, is that Site 5’s tower actually eats into the podium of Penn 1, so I’m wondering if it will be incorporated into the new tower and connected as the dimensions align with those of Penn 1.
Another helpful thing that this shows is the kind of low lying area that will remain between the PABT, this development, and Hudson Yards.
(A lot of, really all of, Hell’s Kitchen is missing from the model, that’s why it’s empty behind the PABT towers, otherwise the model stretches from the Hudson to East Rivers)
Wow, i see the future
The west side is insane! HY Phase 2, PABT, and Penn Station towers!
And that doesn’t even go over the towers that aren’t connected with each of those developments!
It’s a good thing Midtown East got the rezoning, otherwise the East side would be pretty lacking in comparison lol
Amazing!
@TKDV Great visualization!
Can you do this from multiple perspectives? View from Empire State Building
Thanks all!
Per Mackensen’s suggestion, I photoshopped an image from Gary Hershorn with the ESC and whatever of the PABT you could see from the photo’s vantage point from the Empire State Building. It’s absolutely crazy how much these towers will really just command this westward view from the 86th floor Observation deck.
And then another random view
Oh dang. I didn’t realize the Macy’s building was that close to this development. Hopefully we see there tower going up soon! (And hopefully it’s 900 ft)
These are so freaking massive, more more more!
In agreement with mcart, I and we need more of these please!! These renderings models are great!! Shows the impact and bulkiness of these towers!!
