It is 981’, there’s just been a lot of speculation because the Zoning diagram shows the height as being 1011’ even though that is the measurement being taken from AMSL. The main entrance is approximately 30’ above AMSL as also shown in the zoning plans.
News sites, press releases and some of the other forums are using the 1011’ figure to say it’s a supertall, (it “almost” is by 3’).
Probably lol, but there are “a lot” of near 600m towers in China now, Goldin Finance 117 also comes to mind.
But as a comparison to this tower, of this iteration, it hasn’t really had a height change even when the crown was redesigned to just be a parapet, what happened to Ping An was a tragedy as it looks unfinished.
I do think the earlier designs for this one were slightly taller though, the cladding was also messy in my view so it’s a wonder how much it changed from the start to what we now see.
I wonder if the elevator will start coming down since they deem the project complete. I would love to see the hoist come down for 50 Hudson, 2 MW, The Spiral, and Brooklyn Tower.
I also find it interesting that it’s still there, but it’s actually not that weird that it’s still up even though the building has opened. It’s probably only being used now to fit out the upper floors as the lower connections to the elevator have been severed from the building. This allowed the building to open so that lower tenants could start working instead of waiting until the building is “fully” completed. The other towers still have a lot of fit out work to do, but I don’t know what’s going on for The Spiral, one of the elevators was taken down and then the other one started to come down and then stopped.
@5Bfilms lol Idk about that, Frank Stella’s work is in a world of it’s own.
I was also wondering what @BK1985 was referring too.
This is what the crown would’ve looked like, an inverted overhanging projection like structure (still within the boundaries of the upper massing), but that’s all it was, there wasn’t a dome or anything. The parapet replaced the height of the crown. And as per JC_Heights’ image of the roof, it’s completed now.
Ah, I see. They just worded/described the parapet very very differently to how it actually is/works. The slatted translucent louvers on the parapet catch light in the day time, the slanted angular metal face behind them (as seen in JC’s image) lights up at night (flood lights light it up) and light bounces off of it onto the louvers. There isn’t any dome like structure as described in the article.
That art really takes the attention away from the beauty of the lobby stair. Hopefully it gets replaced when it becomes out of date which to me it already has been dated since the 90s.
