Was this an early concept rendering of these 2? Kinda wish they looked more like these renderings.
Yes that’s an early rendering for 10 & 30 HY by KPF for Related. Every building goes through modifications between initial design and construction and in this case, both buildings became slightly shorter and bulkier and the protruding observation deck was added to 30. I’m glad we got the observation deck but I agree that the massing and angles looked better in the first renders. The added bulk makes sense considering tenants’ preferences for wide floor plates. I assume some modifications were made when they landed Time Warner/CNN as 30’s anchor tenant, to accommodate the studios.
If The Edge allows cosplayers, who thinks I should wear one of my skyscraper costumes up there?
Dew it
I would love to, but my costumes tend to be a lot more complex than most of these guys. Multiple layers of fully functioning clothes, often made of some pretty pricy fabric- silk, brocade, suiting fabric, and bridal satin have found their way into several of my builds, along with hand tooled leather. (Cosplayer here, who competes, so my stuff needs to look good up close and can’t take cheesy shortcuts)
I’m even working out how to incorporate lights into some of my builds- a must if I ever take on one of the towers of Times Square.
If I could find some partners, it would be pretty fun though!
Have any photos of aforementioned skyscraper costumes?
Ask and ye shall receive! I have a couple of variations on One Penn Plaza- City Guard outfit, and civilian robes. The people posing with me in front of One Penn are the actual building’s management staff!
I also did 1290 6th Avenue, and just for fun there’s a work in progress shot, with a “rough copy” of 277 Park Avenue’s crown. Also, Astor Plaza coming for Loki after what he did to New York City back in 2012, LOL.
The armor I’m wearing in these photos is all leather, with the exception of 1290’s scaled apron, which is aluminum and brass scale mail, and the red fabric of One Penn’s city guard robes, and 1290’s sunset orange tunic are both made of silk dupioni. All of these costumes were completely my own work, with the exception of the psionic blade props.
This is amazing!
Fantastic! Really impressive.
Thanks! 277 Park will be my first full armor build, that one has over 350 hours into it if you count the time spent on pattern drafting (many of the pattern pieces had to be designed and drafted from scratch). I also want to do civilian robes for him, I have some lovely pinstriped fabric that I actually got in NYC’s garment district. Hmm, maybe I should add 30 Hudson Yards and One Vanderbilt to the list, along with the former Lehman Brothers HQ building in Times Square to my wanna-do list. (That last one would have some killer lighting) I am SUCH a KPF fangirl!

Outstanding photos!
Check out Mike Meyers’ new Netflix series “The Pentaverate” for some spectacular 4K aerials of 30 Hudson Yards (in the show the tower serves as the headquarters of an Illuminati-esque secret society, that even uses the observation deck as a helipad).
