Hopefully that view will be blocked by 2 WTC one day soon…

not the best shot during a rainy afternoon, but the back side looks like a 425 Park situation. We’ll have to wait to see how it turns out.

I still find it crazy how prominent woolworths is even after 100+ years.

Imagine if Singer were in the middle of that photo, not One Liberty. What a shame.

This building really defines Park Row.

1 liberty makes for a better transition towards the WTC towers.

I don’t hate One Liberty, it reminds me (in a good way) of the monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey, and I love how badass the steel beams on the facade look up close. I just wish it were built almost ANYWHERE else in the city. The Singer Building would be just as beloved as Woolworth if it were still around today. Such a beautiful and unique tower. I would have loved to see that weird reddish pink facade in person.

I wonder how Singer would have fared on 9/11.

Could easily have been destroyed, but if not it would probably be some ridiculously expensive restoration effort. They might just tear down as it wasn’t particularly iconic to most ppl

A fair amount of ‘standard’ (non-designed) buildings serve as a foil for the more ornate (designed) buildings: those plain backgrounds and neighbors help those architectural stars shine. I think we see the perfect balance between the plain and the fancy on that downtown skyline. I know the architects of One Liberty Plaza do not think of that building as ‘Plain’ or ‘non-designed’ - but one gets my point about the differences.

I would love to live in 49 chambers with this view:
