Crane coming down
I have a hard time finding another example of a modern building that better fits its surroundings than this one.
In my opinion all modern design should follow this formula.
In the age of ubiquitous “global” glass boxes I would love to see more architects build to their surroundings.
Even companies like Starbucks are building stores that fit the local character. I think all modern development should follow suit.
Handsom, yet modest: a rare and admirable quality.
Thank you
your welcome - you handsome devil. HeHe
This came out beautifully. I’m elated. This and 1 Beekman really gave the block and much needed face lift.
Thought this was cool. This building would be to the left of the Park Row Building.

Seeing old pictures of the Park Row Building reminds me of why 1 Park Row being replaced is a great thing
Just imagine what NY would look like if it had another 50years of 1880-1930 buildings.
It really sucks Dick Cheney to see gorgeous old buildings that were razed.
Yeah the old Post Office building was a treasure. The demolition of old Penn Station gets all the attention, but the demo of the Post Office building was almost as much of a tragedy.
Let’s not forget though that over 90% of the good buildings in NY are still around.
I took me forever to realize that most of the ugly modern buildings were built over ugly stuff like the ones in the foreground of Baronson’s pic.
Pretty much all of Broadway, the Flatiron District, Soho, etc… were and “are” still beautiful.
The only really beautiful part of the city that was messed up is midtown.
I agree.
From what I read, everyone was upset about that Post office building, having been built on park land.
