Or they could be used to signal for extra terrestrial life. The ones on 99 Hudson most definitely.
I can actually try to take a video of these lights tonight. I can see them from my apt. I distinctly remember when they activated them bc one night i looked out my window and thought it was literally a low flying plane at first. Then i quickly realized it wasn’t moving. I’m far enough away that it’s not intrusive for me, but they’re obnoxious as all hell.
So the story about the lights is there are two modes: day and night mode. Day mode is the super bright one every is complaining about. The lights are supposed to automatically switch but during a recent thunderstorm the switch broke so they’re stuck in day mode. Apparently the wait to fix them is like 3 months since its a custom system
I figured it was that, thanks

99 Hudson’s bright lights
Update on the lights as of 5 days ago, from the Councilman.
Taken this past weekend. The sidewalks around the building are open and the podium/ entrance looks great at night!
Thank god they dealt with this. What was going on was criminal. Even from across the Hudson those lights were disturbing

I live 14 miles away from this in Jersey (I’m on an upper floor though so I have a clear view of it) and the lights have been annoying from HERE
Try and record it and put it on YouTube!
Those lights were MANDATED by the FAA as it’s the tallest tower in NJ. Ownership tried to get an exemption as 1 WTT is less that a few miles away but was denied.
I don’t recall the former tallest building having lights that bright though
Right, this isn’t much taller than 30 Hudson.
They have a heat ray on top of 99 Hudson.
Did they ever reduce the luminosity on the tower lights? I remember seeing it in person like 2 months ago, and it was beyond bright.
Residents were complaining.
