JERSEY CITY | 99 Hudson Street | 899 FT | 76 FLOORS

I suggest everyone gets an actual camera. The difference is spectacular, I adore my camera like skyscrapers

This is hilarious, only if they knew it was there for their safety

The lights are actually insane, I’ve seen them at night and they’re literally a hundred times brighter than normal safety lights, it makes no sense

Yeah I’m not convinced something is not right. A few posts up Springboss shared the Instagram of the lighting company… what we are seeing doesn’t appear to even match what was described:

At 99 Hudson, the tallest building in New Jersey which overlooks Manhattan and Liberty Island. On the 12th of September, Point Lighting personnel completed the commissioning of the FAA L-856/L-864 dual white-red high intensity LED obstruction lighting system (8 beacons). It is now operating 24/7 with 270,000 candelas flashing daytime in white; 20,000 in white at twilight; 2,000 in red at night.

They should be red at night and white during the day. Looks more like we are getting the 270k candela version at night.

I’ll see them sometime soon. Is it weird that I can’t wait to see them?

Personally I thought the lights were pretty neat, but definitely in more of a blade runner-esque way (especially in fog or misty conditions)

Just a random shot, not of the lights

No one has video of these alleged crazy lights?

What are the flashing lights for anyway, like, what’s the purpose?

It’s for aircraft, just like the rest of the red lights on top of towers. But I believe they’re so bright for 2 reasons: close to an airport and preventing another catastrophic event

its close to EWR and also a LGA flightpath yes but also it’s the tallest thing in the municipality. Even though 1 WTC is across the river this is an entirely different city and state.

They also don’t blink red - they blink white in an odd flashing pattern. I’ll go get a video tomorrow night

Go to the Empire State Building EarthCam at night and you will see these lights going at it. They’re very noticeable even from those miles away

I’m guessing these sort of lights is to be expected for any future taller buildings in Jersey City? 99 Hudson isn’t even a supertall.

Should just transplant these lights to the beacon atop One WTC and call it a day there.

might be a glitch. Should be red at night, white during the day. I think if one doesn’t work then the other color is used just to have something. Kind of reminds me of a buoy.

To me it looks like the lights rotate around the top

Yeah, it rotates around different corners of the rooftop, front and back of the building. But even if it was red, it would be a pretty bright red lol
