I always thought that the Burj Khalifa looked great in downtown. I think if anything over 600 meters is built in Manhattan, it should rise in the center of the island with the shorter buildings sloping away to the rivers. Sort of like a bell curve.
I don’t think it will happen. People would go nuts and try to block it. I like, however, that someone wants to try building it.
I am VERY interested to see the plans/location. It would have to be an enormous assemblage.
If there is an enormous assemblage, the possibilities are endless. If the mile-high tower plan is nixed, it could be a REALLY fat 2,000 foot office tower. Could be twin towers or multiple towers.
Interested to see if THE MAN and our friend Nikolai has heard about this.
It will happen at some time… but the statements about looking out of place are true because One, the demand isnt there yet and two, it frankly wouldnt look good.
We DO however have enormous demand for buildings that are creeping up on the megatall mark.
But a 5000+ foot (gigatall? Idk what to call it) tower amidst all these 900 footers? That would look absolutely wrong.
Anything that is 150% of the height of the current plateau looks great, any more and its too much.
We would get used to it.
I am sure that this is going to happen, just not anytime soon. NYC just isn’t ready. I feel like the construction boom that is happening right now will inevitably stall in about 5-7 years time. We will then have to wait patiently for like 10
years and in the next boom the possibility of something of this scale will be very real IMO. I expect various megatalls (600meters+) and probably a 3500 feet tall or 2 to crown it all, just like Central Park tower and 1wtc right now. Be patient lads, I hope I am wrong but in any case patience is key ;).
