WHITE PLAINS | Development News

Those places are far enough away though that it would be inconvenient to stay in downtown WP.

You’d think so, but I know for a fact that IBM puts people up in White Plains hotels despite being so far. Mastercard and Pepsi are even closer–only about 5 miles and a 10-15 minute drive from downtown WP.

I think it comes down to the fact that most of the more suburban Westchester towns don’t really allow hotel construction at all, so there aren’t many options that are closer to those company’s campuses. There’s not a single hotel in Purchase, and only one crappy motel in Armonk, for instance.

I know. I live in Westchester.

That sucks, but obviously another hotel operator will take the space. Hotel brands change all the time, and the Ritz was always a bit of a stretch.

I agree. I think that a regular Marriott would do well there. The new hotel by Target seems to be pretty busy.

My initial news was wrong. Sorry.

Now they are saying the Ritz Carlton hotel will be renovated and reopened next year.

Not surprising really, unfortunate for the employees there. Hopefully it will encourage some thought on redevelopment plans…

Thank, God!

I want the whole Galleria to be redeveloped into housing with retail at the base and green space. The Galleria is horrible.

How long can a mall survive with no anchor tenets?

Quote from lohud article:

“Macy’s has been an asset to Galleria White Plains for many years,” said Josh McCord, the Galleria’s general manager. “Although we are disappointed with their business decision to close, this is an opportunity to continue to evolve the asset through a transformative redevelopment with the integration of a mix of uses to meet the needs of the market.”
