Just one more lane, bro.
These state DOT’s need to get it out of their heads that widening lanes does not “fix” congestion and will only worsen it.
Per that article, another solution is to simply build a “collector-distributor” road that runs parallel to it. The options are either build new roads or the third option is to reconfigure exits and hard shoulders.
There may be hope that widening won’t happen if there is enough pushback.
But some local advocates who had been following the DOT’s work said they were caught off guard by the proposal to widen the highway, which they described as an outdated — and thoroughly debunked — solution to the city’s traffic woes.
Money would be much better spent on the New Haven line imo

can this one be moved to “denied” bucket?
STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Zoning Board this week denied a proposal to construct 60 townhomes and a 201-unit apartment building with associated amenities at 23 Barry Place, the site that formerly housed the Conair Corporation in Waterside.
A motion to deny was approved 3-1. Members cited concerns with the proposed density, scale and compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood. The board also said there were concerns with traffic, safety and neighborhood livability.

Part of the Stamford Marriott will be converted to residential.
This is Stamford’s largest hotel by number of rooms (508 rooms) and is famous for hosting the annual crossword tournament, which will move to Philadelphia next year as it has outgrown Stamford. After the conversion, the largest hotels will be Doubletree (484 rooms) and Armon (455 rooms).
Knighthead Funding provided the loan for the 3.57-acre hotel property in Downtown Stamford, where Clearview plans to convert its east tower to apartments and upgrade the west tower as a more modernized Marriott.
Located at 243 Tresser Boulevard 35 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan, the Stamford Marriott was built in 1977 and renovated in 2008. Clearview is targeting studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units in the east tower, according to Knighthead.

The building is also nearly vacant, Salvatore said. Online job site Indeed, the building’s only tenant, plans to move its headquarters out in February to 200 Elm St. in Stamford.
“All the leases were expiring, so it’s a logical conversion candidate,” he said.
