Imagined pair of towers for the parking lot zoned CMX-5 at 2201 Market street in the core of Center City West. Would fill in a massive gap, boost density and height of the city in a much needed fashion. Currently a design proposal, nothing confirmed. Any thoughts?
Pulled from the portfolio:
“The site sits near the Schuylkill crossing between Center City and University City, with 30th Street Station across the river. That position inspired the proposal: a substantial addition to the skyline at a place that already connects different parts of Philadelphia. The current concept model places each tower at approximately 1,085 feet, or 331 meters, to the crown.
Vol. 1 of the design portfolio. The images bring together skyline studies and a terrace view. The original sketch shows where the idea began. These concept visualizations explore the proposed architecture and atmosphere within an illustrative city context.
A couple more I snipped from the portfolio. Really love just how much it would fill in the skyline. I know its just a design proposal, but one can hope xD.
The one on the left looks more integrated. I can understand that with a skyline like Philly’s a river has to run through it by necessity. But were one doesn’t run thru it, it’s never IMO a wise idea to build something of that scale so far away from the main cluster. Then again, other factors might and do force that scenario to be implemented.
I understand what you mean by away from the main cluster, but it does fill in a currently vacant lot - and that area currently looks so empty despite being in center city, so this would definitely improve that. They are putting up another taller building closer to where this would be ( PHILADELPHIA | Harper Square (113-119 South 19th St) | 500+ FT | 45 FLOORS ) so that would help too. I think that if this was built, the gap between this and main cluster would naturally fill in eventually (assuming Philly continues an upward trajectory).
