(Paywall Bypass)
Paywall
I included a link to an archived version which bypasses the paywall because I am aware of the paywall. It’s aptly titled “paywall bypass”.
The next Community Engagement Session for the EWR Vision Plan is scheduled to take place at the end of the month. While the 3rd engagement session is a month late, we may begin to soon start seeing potential designs for Terminal B and other facilities as part of the “preferred options” for the project.
The dates for Community Engagement Session #3 are below.

EWR is still terrible.
its really not that bad. the new A is obviously good. terminal C works, its definitely a bit tight before security because its small, but its generally in good shape. I think B is the real culprit because in terms of general international arrival terminals it is very weak.
the fact that the old A is gone is a massive step forward. It was hands down the worst part of EWR.
They can’t upgrade this airport fast enough. It really is a mess and an embarrassing first impression for foreigners arriving in the US the first time. Hopefully they can work as fast in changing things like what was done at LGA.
EWR won’t be done at the speed LGA or even JFK is getting and that’s a fact. The air train project keeps being stalled and the cost is ballooning past the $2B estimate and I won’t be surprised if they value engineer it like they did with Terminal A. The project has been continuously delayed from the start and was riddled with supply chain issues, unlike LGA. Even the Community Engagement Sessions for the vision plan were held late which says quite a bit in regards to how much of a priority EWR is.
the airtrain plan that was sent out for RFP a few years ago was ill conceived. It included a lot of provisions and money for temporary track and temporary access to existing terminals that would eventually be demolished.
I think the PA realized that they had hundreds of millions of dollars of cost that were tied up in work related to temporary conditions.
they need to get the master plan for the airport settled then decide what to build to meet that plan.
i am happy they had a moment of pause.
I recently found images of the EWR long-term development options posted on imgur. Here’s what they have in store for potential replacements of the other terminals (B & C) at EWR.
I prefer Option 1 as it is symmetrical and maximizes potential space for aircraft movements since all the gates are on satellite concourses. The road layout also isn’t a massive confusing maze which seems to be a problem that plagues the airport currently.
Wow! I’ve been waiting for these to come out for ages. That first option is very exciting in my opinion. Once fully complete EWR would have an outstanding layout. I wonder how United feels about it–I hope they don’t do what Delta did at LGA and demand their own facility. I’ve actually been working on a replacement for Terminal C based around the plans for Terminal A and B over the past few months and it’s kind of funny to see elements of it reflected in option 1.
Yeah, option 1 would be smart. A lot of larger airports have a layout like that, and some larger/older ones have ended up converting to that layout over time. Heathrow is a great example.
The conrac will open next week.
This is a great addition to Newark, as many other airports have conracs.
Terminal A earned LEED Gold status.

I forgot to mention that when the new consolidated rental car center opens, the “P3” station on the AirTrain will permanently close, according to the Port Authority’s press release.
EWR Conrac opens tomorrow at 2am.
Big news for the EWR Air Train replacement.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that it has selected Doppelmayr, a market leader in cable-propelled transport systems, in the first phase of a multi-phase procurement process to replace the existing AirTrain system at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Hit the 3 consecutive post limit again.
I researched what the Dopppelmayr company produced and it’s safe to assume we’re getting something similar to what Oakland has at their airport.
Here’s a video of what their air train looks like in action.
