Hopefully they’ll get the Oculus skylight repaired and make the place more people friendly.
The fact that there are/were only those ugly cloud looking “benches” sparsely thrown around the mall is absurd.
Let’s not forget the ridiculous looking 1 WTC base at night. Not sure if that’s their territory as well but at this rate they might as well just shut the base lights off. It looks more uniform than the checkerboard lights.

The base has been being repaired this week, light by light. That said, it will look like crap by summer. The long term solution is probably to shut it down but the port authority isn’t ready to accept that…

Honestly yeah I kind of hope the PA realizes shutting it down is the best bet. It actually looks decent the times I’ve seen them off. They should just utilize it for special events. Saves everyone the hassle of constant light repairs.

Supposedly they won awards for the base’s design from some architecture thing, I forget which. In theory it’s quite stunning, but, like the nostrils, a single busted light kind of ruins the effect. They severely underestimated how arduous maintenance of this would be— these workers need to replace several LED strips (see photo) by hand through several layers of metal and glass, for each square that is broken.

I agree. I do think they look great when they all work properly. It’s just such a shame they break so often.
I always wonder how it would have been with the original base design.
I’m also hoping they put signage back up on the entrance canopies since the east plaza is close to completion.

There were workers checking out a pane of broken podium glass on the south facade recently (has been broken for months). I’m assuming there will be cosmetic repairs to the other sides once east plaza is open.
