Staten Island man finds alligator in Oakwood woods
probably an illegal pet. Happens all the time, sadly. See the recent case of a Crocodile… in Chicago.
That, or sewer Gators are real.
Wow!
not the biggest problem the NYCHA has going on.
After multiple acts of senseless violence over the past few weeks, one of which occured in Brooklyn, please keep an eye and an ear out wherever you go. You’re not safe from it anywhere, that’s the society we currently live in. Here in New York it’s not the wild west where folks seem to think it’s normal to open carry an assault weapon, but that still doesn’t eliminate the chances of a mass shooting event involving concealable firearms. Stay alert, be safe. Remember this sequence:
320 million people in this country.
The odds of anything happening to your are statistically non existent.
Gun violence pretty much just effects drug dealers and people with abusive spouses. If you don’t fall into those two categories then you’re good.
We need to stop spreading fear and realize what we see in virtual reality is not “reality”
That is naive given the random nature of killing sprees. They can happen in Texas or they can happen in Connecticut. That’s not someone’s virtual reality. That actually happened. Statistics aren’t going to help you if it happens in your neighborhood. But that’s not an argument I want to get into here. Perpetual argument and no agreement is why the problem persists.
Fear is a powerful thing that makes people irrational. Thinking something like this will ever happen to you is analogous to building a nuclear fallout shelter in your backyard. It’s an irrational fear.
If you’re not a drug dealer or have an abusive spouse then your chances of dying from gun violence are slim to none.
Those people were just tragically unlucky.
I’m not trying to be callus I think we just tend to over think things and sensationalize everything. And that paranoid angst just causes more problems. Those are just the cold hard, purely objective facts.
There was motorcycle backfire last night in Times Squared that folks thought were gunshots. Caused 1000’s to run, but it wasn’t a shooting, just popping sounds from a motorcycle.
People are on edge.
“This is the unfortunate reality of our times”
…It’s not though. This is not reality. This is irrational fear and paranoia.
Since 1966 only 1,100 people have died in mass shootings. 1,100 over the course of 50+ years. We desperately need to get a grip on reality these days.
This societal anxiety is out of control.

I find it interesting that you have more of a problem with how people react to these shootings than the actual shootings.
You are less likely to die because of a terrorist attack yet we have a multi-billion dollar industry to prevent attacks. Why? Because nobody in their right mind would be ok with allowing terrorists to commit mass murder because it statistical kills less people. The same should be said about mass shootings especially when it soft targets such as schools, malls, movie theaters, etc.
This is a problem that will get worse because people are being radicalized online and have access to weapons that can kill multiple people.
Trying to downplay this is a terrible way at looking at it. It the same thing people did after the 93 bombing of the WTC and look what happen 8 years after.
No I find them appalling, tragic, needless, and completely unnecessary and sad.
But I’m also wise enough to recognize that humans are panicky, gullible, irrational and paranoid. And in the age of the internet that’s problematic because these conformation bias algorithms will make people think there is a far bigger threat then there actually is.
People tend to panic. There are well documented examples of how often and easily people panic. It’s becoming a huge problem in the internet era because this angst is putting everyone on edge and stressing people out more then is realistically warranted.
More non-architecture related political debates? Can we please not turn this place into City Data 2.0
Where the janitors at? Time to do some cleaning.

Agreed.
respect to the men and women in uniform keeping our great city safe. Its no easy task and often it goes unappreciated. The amount of cops that have killed themselves this year is shocking but sadly not covered much after the initial news of a death. ![]()
“ The Cupertino, California-based tech company is looking around Manhattan for somewhere between 200,000 and 500,000 square feet for a new office, sources told The Real Deal . One source said the tech firm could take as much as 750,000 square feet.
Apple’s checked out the usual suspects of properties on the short list for most companies with assignments of that size, including the Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group’s 50 Hudson Yards, Related and Vornado Realty Trust’s Farley Post Office redevelopment and SL Green Realty’s One Madison Avenue, sources said”.
“Apple is the last of the big FAANG tech companies (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google) to scale up to a significant size in New York City. But to the city’s office landlords and leasing brokers, the move seemed inevitable: As the availability of office space and workforce talent in grows ever-tighter in Silicon Valley, these companies would naturally look to expand to tech hubs like New York”.
