NEW YORK | Various News About Our City and Q&A

It looks like NYPD cars are getting a new design again (just one year after the previous design was introduced). To be honest this looks like something which was designed by a 5 year old kid…NYPD had maybe the coolest looking police cars in the world from 70s to 90s, then there was very good design from late 90s to present and now this???

Not exactly NYC related but is involving Syracuse in upstate NY. A highway is being rerouted outside the city and new walkable development is to take its place.

The comments in the Aol article are a salt mine and the ignorance is astonishing.

That’s been talked about for years, but I-81 in Syracuse still hasn’t been torn down. This type of article is published at least once a year. I’ll believe it when I see it.

The ignorance surrounding car infrastructure that’s been ingrained into the American psyche is truly remarkable. One of the auto-industry’s greatest tricks.

When you grow up in a place that doesn’t offer any alternative form of transportation, you’ll really believe highways and parking lots aren’t destructive to city centers.

It got held up in court for a while. Work is in progress on the actual rerouting of the road.

We have a very pro-automobile governor, and there is no mechanism in state or federal law to prevent the governor from putting the demolition of the highway in Syracuse on “indefinite pause”, which is exactly what I predict will happen.

Well perhaps but there is some mighty serious construction going on at the south side of 81 right before you get into the city, at the juncture of 481.

Google earth has updated midtown from sometime last summer, I’d say. Are they doing this more or less annually at this point?

Feels like it should be more frequent considering how much more advanced satellites are now but it all depends on how much time Google invest in it.

probably won’t be any avoiding this news:

New York Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that remain sealed, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The latest development makes Adams the first mayor in New York City history to ever be indicted while in office.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

Meanwhile, Adams responded to the indictment in a statement released Wednesday night.

“I always knew that If I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target-and a target I became. If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit,” he said.

Interesting development: thanks for the news. I don’t know what to think, but that phrase is one thing I find very funny about “news” reporting these days - “according to sources familiar with the matter”:

OK, now we KNOW this is from a reliable & trusted source…

Cheers.

Yeah it’s staggering seeing him on social media posting like he’s not indicted. It totally overshadows whatever he is promoting even if it is good. Although he may not have gone to trial yet, it’s too distracting. The city deserves better—someone whose entire energy can be focused on it. He needs to resign.

Also to add… he thinks he was appointed by God. That’s just so off-putting, I don’t need any politician saying that.
