I here lodge a public complaint against that nutty apartment occupant who covered the entire window, floor-to-ceiling, and wall-to-wall, with ALUMINUM FOIL. If they have no regard for the Architectural appeal of this cutting edge design; why not just move into a ‘building standard’ glass box.
I know these apartments get very intense glaring direct sun for many hours during the early morning/afternoon sun, as it rises on the east, then also reflects from the river: but really.
Maybe if the right person sees this post, someone from the buildings’ management office will knock on the door: or maybe someone from shoP should pay them a visit.
Too funny, it is the ‘copper building’ - soon to be dubbed the ‘aluminum foil building’.
Anyone know what’s going on with that big empty lot between the American Copper Buildings and the UN Building? Seems expensive to just let it sit there empty. Must be some of the most prime vacant land in Manhattan.
Here are some proposals I found for the site back in 2001:
OMA/Rem Koolhaas:
Peter Eisenman:
Solow’s company owns it and plans to develop it in phases. There was a proposal for a life sciences skyscraper and more condo towers a few years back, but no movement since.
