I don’t pay attention to that comment section. Learned that a while ago.
I do kinda wish the portico columns could wind up at the NY Botanical Garden as part of a ruin garden or something
That’s what usually happens, they get “lost” for a little while and someone reclaims them for a little installation at whichever green space is popular right now.
People often say that about new towers. Even the heavily opposed One Liberty Place had the same complaints when under construction. At the grand opening, it was 35 percent leased with the anchor tenant already situated in their space. Even 432 Park had the same complaint, and look at how thats going
The ESB was mostly empty for almost a decade.
But anyway this building is not going to be empty. It’s a modern, amenities filled, transit oriented mixed use building with some of the best views in the city.
Which is exactly what tenants want.
The rendering of the old Hotel Pennsylvania on a 1919 postcard. I could also say the way it was planned but never finished.
More historical pictures will follow later.

I’ve updated my model to match the latest renderings of the service cores’ exterior, here are a couple of renderings:

Awesome!!
Good god the back is so unpleasant, thank goodness the tower on Site 6 should cover most of it and Site 8’s tower and the proposed Macy’s Tower should detract/block it as well. It’d be so much better to just cover it in false window panels or even to transition between false windows and metal panels over the full metal panels.
I think the tower’s back design is like that because (like you said based on your comment) they knew that the other towers will block it eventually.
At least with the offset core, the architect put some thought into putting some windows, details, and cladding. It ain’t a giant solid concrete wall thankfully.
I agree, I think that the northern wall would be better off with more reflective glass cladding rather than the overbearing expanse of aluminium panels. I’m surprised that the glass elevator shafts seen in some early renderings have been dropped, as that’s a classic Foster feature and would be perfect for this site.
I’m not entirely sure of it, but I think two of the latest renderings show a semi-transparent cladding for the two outermost ‘wings’ of the service core:

Make your a model from the Affirmation Tower?
I do want to make a model of Affirmation Tower in the near future, though it is a bit more difficult as there hasn’t been very much information released on the tower’s dimensions or internal structure. The renderings seen so far at least give a very good idea of the facade design.
Yeah you’ll probably want to wait until the details are released for that one.
A little off-topic but I wish there are other proposals being released for 418 11th Avenue (Site K) besides Affirmation Tower
