Just like One WTC right after it opened

Can anyone provide a date for this photo? WWP top still copper-brown I assume from filter. Photo from ebay

I need someone to love me as much as you love this building. :face_exhaling:

Please don’t take that as an insult. I think it’s great that an NYC building/complex has a diehard fan.

1995, from Karl Döringer

I’m going to work on collecting images specifically from 1995-2000 to see if I can create a timeline(?) of oxidation. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong places, but it is proving to be difficult to find any high quality images of the west side of Manhattan during this time period. Most of what I’m finding is just of the trade center. Although this image above has a filter on it (or maybe it’s just how the camera is) I cannot be very picky in what types of photos I’m able to find.

The top of the roof was still copper in 1991-92 and it seems that this was the case in 95. Unfortunately this image above does not have a date aside from the year.

TBD

The grossly large Marlboro ad and the porn video store screams 90’s

I have deleted a post of a postcard I found that was labeled as being from 1997 that showed the Worldwide Plaza with a dark copper roof. Unless the roof turned green overnight, there is no way that the building maintained the original brown it had that year. So I suspect that date was incorrect. I’m thinking that 1996-1997 was the year it began to change to green.

At the moment I am pretty much unable to find any images from 1996 from a good POV other than photos like this, so I am going to bed, as it is 01:00 AM where I am right now

The roof is clearly brown here, so the oxidation occurred between 1996-1997.

I will look for more images eventually to solidify my claims and findings but… I need a bit of sleep first… sorry

I haven’t seen the light atop the building turn on during the day before, I wonder how the camera picked it up?

(I got three hours of sleep last night)

Based on natural lighting of everything, this shot may be during early sunset with the sun shining of the “Childs’ Pyramid” or whatever it was called

November 22, 1989 was the first night it was lit up

Fun fact- the roof lights on the Worldwide Plaza turn off at midnight each day. I observed this two nights when I was there January 2024. I am unsure what time of time they turn on in the evening

I wonder if the new buyers of Worldwide Plaza will pay the money to renovate the current property?
