NEW YORK | One Worldwide Plaza | 778 FT | 49 FLOORS

Does anyone have images of the Worldwide Plaza before the roof oxidized to green?

Additionally, does anyone know what exact year it completed oxidation? I’ve seen images of 1999 where the roof is completely green, so it must have oxidized within the 10-11 years before that.

Thank you

yeah the oxidation occurred roughly in the early to mid 90s. The World Financial Center rooftops too. I recall posting a helicopter video from that era sometime awhile back and you could see all the copper roofs.

ah, nevermind, this was 1986. So just the WFC.

Hello, @worldwideplaza!

found one from browsing that thread. Notice the crown has lost its luster in 1990 and is brown instead of shiny copper. Like a penny.

I’d also recommend looking up Midtown Manhattan skyline in 1989. Shots from 1988 shows the crane just starting to poke out the skyline and City Spire under construction

The building might be sold.

One possible purchaser is Armando Christian Pérez, who already owns naming rights to the Florida International University football field, and would rename this Mr Worldwide Plaza.

Another is David Letterman, who would turn into Worldwide Pants Plaza.

Woah why does the sales force building look like that?

The building was reclad in a major renovation in 2006 after Verizon moved their corporate hq’s from the building.

Always been a big fan of One Worldwide Plaza. I really hope it doesn’t get the 383 Madison treatment.

woah the streets having no shadows from the skyscrapers is really cool

I knew there were 4 iterations of Madison Square Garden but I didn’t realize that version 3 was built on the site this building sits on until recently. Apparently after that version was torn down this sat as a parking lot for quite a bit before this building went up. Funny how some things never change.

I didn’t realize in the first image that they installed David’s Diamond (the name for the top of the building) before the rest of the section directly below it
