Skyline in the twilight by xiaoling sun, on Flickr
Wow. What a job they did at ground level outside. If someone could share a few other pics that would be amazing. We need more greenery in nyc. Agree?
Just noticed some bright white FAA lights now blinking on the 4 corners of the parapet. That seems relatively new.
Yep, noticed that too as well
There seems to be some some other new, much brighter lighting on the crown tonight. I hope they add bright accents like this to each level of the crown.
When it was lit up this way on the recent holiday, I noticed that the bright light at the very tip of the spire did a little “heartbeat” pulsing that it doesn’t usually do.
Interesting lighting! Only hint of this that I knew of was that promo clip ages ago on the onevanderbilt.com site. Looks like several towers (BofA and H&M) can match themes now!
We’ll see how well they all match. Durst notably controls 1WTC, H&M, and BofA and does their lighting in sync. ESRT owns the ESB and does things a little different but always hits the major holidays, we’ll see what Vanderbilt/SLGreen does but so far I have seen some coordination with 383 Madison and Rockefeller Center among others so they might have some potential doing a midtown east lighting share.
I’m guessing Steinway + Nordstrom won’t feature themed lighting as they are residential, but who knows, One57 has done weird things with the crown LED screen
The renderings have only ever shown CPT and Steinway with white lights. One57 is capable of producing colorful light shows but for some reason they usually have it set on white. 425 Park has colored LEDs on the outer fins, but it’s way shorter than the other new towers.
“ EarthCam has been working alongside SL Green Realty Corp. for over 4 years to showcase footage of another incredible addition to the NYC skyline. One Vanderbilt, Midtowns tallest commercial tower completed construction in late 2020. Eight webcams and almost 2 million images were used to deliver this time-lapse movie. ”
I really hope EarthCam continues this fantastic partnership which every major building going up in the city.
Time-lapse video like this serves as a reminder of the amount of human ingenuity, engineering, determination, and will power it takes to make these structures rise.
We are spoiled in this era of architectural photography and videography.
Wow. That’s really well-done!
