New York Metropolitan Vintage Photo/Video Collection

Unfortunately almost everything in life is cyclical. While we are thankfully living in a period right now when most people seem to be against tearing old structures down, it won’t last forever. The next generation or maybe generation after very likely won’t give a shit and will more closely resemble the mindset of the 60’s when it comes to tear downs :frowning:

I’m a 23 year old Gen-Z guy, as a matter of fact, and I hold many of the same positions as Robert Moses had in transportation, and I like his old proposals for crosstown expressways.

^
Ah man that’s great. Not any of the proposals, those still suck and will always suck. Just that you’re into transportation and all that.

Can’t fault me for not caring because I do, in fact, care. I will die on the hill though that highways are still some of the best transportation solutions out there, even in, especially in, New York City.

Unfortunately jackster99 you are probably right. And then a subsequent generation will come lamenting the destruction of a previous generation and the cycle continues.

I just found the only picture I know of the interior of any of the Washington Life Building office floors. The Guaranty Trust Co. Building is back there.

Awesome picture.

Washington Life and North American seen from across the clearing in Feb 1965 ft. Singer

Floorplans of North American Trust, you can see that the Chock restaurant would’ve occupied most of the ground floor and the upper floors only had a tiny corridor for the elevators

Wideshot of a more common picture I found on facebook where you can see the framework of the two being demolished c. 1969

My goal atm is to find some actual plans for Washington Life, or at least a better picture of it from the 140 Broadway clearing before it was demolished

Wow great photos! And what a finding! I never knew about the North American Trust Co. Bldg. plans, that’s awesome. I started my models from this block from scratch some days ago (again) and this will help me a lot with it. The plans of the Washington Life have been my goal for a few years now, and you already found the North American Trust and also the Fidelity and Casualty, I feel the day is coming

The reason I started them again is because I found a foundation plan which gave me a pretty good idea about the angles between the facades. I didn’t post it here because it looked uninteresting, but even if it is, here it goes now.
