(Edited) Appleton House at 200 William Street: originally I expected this to be a later photo but the date of 1895 seems to be correct: it was torn down by 1897 and left as an empty lot until it’s purchase in 1904, where the Black Building was then erected

Tallest building in NYS outside of Manhattan and on Long Island for 29 years. It must have been crazy watching this go up back then.
