Finally we’re getting started. LaGuardia is amazing now, can’t wait for JFK to go through it. The quality is there with LaGuardia let’s see with JFK. Hopefully those renders with all the NYC advertising is toned down. Like they don’t need a picture of ESB on the wall, they’re already in the city.
I mean they’re simply renderings and they may be subject to change. It’s 100% given that there will be value engineering so at least hope the more ‘tacky’ things get VE’d out and not things that would make the terminal look ‘botched’ or ‘half-assed’ (e.g Terminal 8)
Well they seem to be going heavy with the local artists, they can just have that stuff everywhere. It looks pretty good at LaGuardia imo.
I’m very glad that greatly needed upgrades and reno’s are being done to all 3 major NY airports, but I’m very disappointed that AA’s Terminal 8 was never completed the way it was intended/envisioned (like ALC11 mentioned), and that it wasn’t considered to be completed in this renovation while they instead added the small attachment for BA to it.
Yikes.
Swiss Life Asset Managers is investing in JFK International Airport’s New Terminal One development project alongside a consortium including Ferrovial, Carlyle, JLC Infrastructure, and Ullico.
Swiss Life Asset Managers said its infrastructure equity platform has acquired a minority equity stake to help fund the construction of the $9.5bn (€8.8bn) terminal in the US.
Seems like there are some updates to the Terminal 1 renderings…looks much better in my opinion…much less gimmicky with the interior material choices
Looks really good. I like the more muted colour scheme of this ‘refinement’ compared to all the bright colours and oversized signs from the original renderings.
Ferrovial also seems to be the operator as well, so I’m sure they provided some input in regards to muting the ‘tackiness’ of the design.
Ferrovial Airports is appointed to design, build, and operate the new Terminal One at JFK International Airport in New York, USA. The project includes replacing Terminals 1 and 2 and former Terminal 3 of the airport. The lease will run through 2060.
Hopefully this means that we’ll also see a refinement in the design of the new T6…(I realize different operator and designer, but they both had similar excess in the previously released renderings)
I wish there were more renderings of the interiors of the terminal. Pictures of how the check in counters/ kiosks areas will look, the boarding gates area as well as how the air train station will look within the terminal. I guess they’re still working on the specific designs for all these.
I particularly like how the entire roadway will be covered for vehicular traffic.
The designs are nice but pretty boring if I’m gonna be honest. Nothing interesting at all, especially compared with most new (or even renovated) airports. (So basically like Metlife Stadium is too other stadiums).
That isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I know it’ll probably be high quality, but is kinda disappointing though I knew this from the beginning.
I agree. There’s a real generic-modern-airport aesthetic here. I wish we could get something more dramatic and beautiful, like Madrid’s T4, or pretty much any of the new airports in China.
Something like Madrid’s T4 would be remarkable…but at least we have LGA TB for some grandeur. At least with this new terminal we (hopefully) have something functional and at the very least some nice detailing…but I’ll hold my breath until we see more renders
I’ve come to expect the basic concerning the design of infrastructure projects here in New York unfortunately. I’m guessing since it’s already so expensive to build in the city, any additional aesthetics will be cost prohibitive. This new Terminal one as I understand isn’t even an increase in capacity as it’s still only 23 gates, for a building this big it’s a mystery.
