NEW YORK | JFK Airport Renovation/Upgrades

Hard to say, sometimes the issue is superficial, but the rebar is clearly visible in this instance so I’m sure it will be repaired. Whether the steel can be installed before the issue is corrected is another story though, just depends on if the structural integrity of that side of the wall has been compromised.

Just a small detail I noticed—the New Terminal One’s website says that the terminal will be 2.6 million sq ft. instead of the previously mentioned 2.4 million feet. I wonder where the extra 200k square ft is coming from.

Good spot, looks like they’ve been using the 2.6 million figure since June or so. My first guess is that the extra 200k comes from the hammerhead end to the west pier, which would add four gates brining the total to 27. It was featured in the earlier renders from 2018 but taken off in the 2021 revision, probably due to lower demand (also, it would require the elimination of a small section of one of the main taxiways).

I recall seeing some diagrams of the revised 2021 proposal featuring this hammerhead as “phase c”, to be built as demand required. It’s possible with the influx of future airline tenants over the past few months—and no doubt more to come—that they’re starting to make the case for proceeding with phase c right after phase b2 ends. Along with T4 phase 3 and phase 4, construction at JFK would last into the mid 2030s.

That said, it could also be the connector to T4? It could also be something else entirely, we’ll have to see if it shows up in renders, though I’m not certain we’ll get new ones anytime soon.

It very well could be the T4 connector as although it doesn’t appear in current renderings, a revision of the Environmental Impact statement for T1 includes it.

In the Proposed 2022 Plan, in addition to the Walkway to Terminal 4, passengers will also be able to utilize the AieTrain Station 1 which will connect passengers not only to Terminal 4 but to all the other terminals at the airport and do so without having to exit the Terminal.

Flew from JFK and got some shots of NTO from both the traffic gridlock to T4 and from my plane. Notably it looks like the first of those tree columns is being fitted with that distinct flowing cladding from the renders!

Here’s an interesting tidbit about Terminal 6. Its skylights use ETFE, a fluorine-based plastic material, rather than glass, making for a very clean look. I think it’s the same material used on the Shed and the Eden Project.

Official JFK Airport construction B-Roll from 5 days ago.

Some airside T1 cladding is visible at the 24 minute mark.

Great footage! I wonder what prompted the PA to upload this? The start of cladding on that east pier/headhouse connection seems quite well timed, as I read the east pier topped out a few days back so they’re wasting no time with the cladding.

I found it linked in a labor day travel advisory which doesn’t even focus on the progress of the airport renovation. The actual video is listed as “unlisted” as well so I wonder if a future update will be released regarding the airport construction.

Welp, not complaining :joy: Also, imagine if JetBlue were to go bust and United just slid right into the JFK operation at T5/6, acquiring a ready-made hub facility (not unlike EWR when they bought Continental). Not gonna happen ofc but it would be kinda neat for the big 3 to all have mega-complexes at JFK.

The AirTrain at JFK can be exploited for free rides.

That’s what happens when they install gates that don’t even close🤦‍♂️wouldn’t be surprised if they switch it out for their knockoff “TAPP” pay system

Found a Tiktok page that posts on-site stuff all the time: TikTok - Make Your Day
Example from T1. I’d take more but I’d need a Tiktok acct lol (edit: got around it on incognito)

A Port Authority information video for JFK construction has a new render of the disappointment that is the GTC garage, featuring a very outdated T1 model.

They neutered that garage so badly. What a shame.

Also, where was that video even posted?

I think I got it as an ad on Twitter. Algorithm’s doing its job haha

Picked someone up at JFK T5 and had a chance to look at T1 and T6. Both are huge. The construction had that place in disarray as well with a lot of work on the roadways happening as well.
