If the Hilton Hotel were to be built on Site K, would it be possible to construct a pedestrian bridge over 11th Avenue?
that would be sick
Not as sick as building a passage under 11th Avenue, which considering is a viaduct and open underneath the street surface in this section, makes infinitely more sense than a visually intrusive skywalk.
They are planning on connecting the Hilton to JCC via a sky bridge, so thatâs already in the works/a part of the proposal.
An underground pedestrian connection used to exist on this site that led to JCC, but it became defunct once the vent building was built in its footprint.
Not all of 11th Ave is a viaduct, much of it isnt. Where there isnt earth or backfill, it is easements for Amtrak and/or the MTA.
I donât think JCC is ever used to refer to the Javits Center. JCC usually means Jewish Community Center.
I think skybridges are a pox on the urban streetscape - just look at downtown Minneapolis / Saint Paul. But I guess it will be appealing to those who want to visit NYC for a convention without ever having to step outside.
I heard the Hilton Hotel at Site K is supposed to have over 40 floorsâis that true? Hopefully, some renderings of the hotel will be released in the coming months.
