https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-09-09/barclays-explores-moving-u-s-headquarters-to-nyc-s-hudson-yards

Barclays Plc is interested in taking office space at Hudson Yards, looking west to replace their U.S. headquarters in Times Square, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The London-based bank is seeking roughly 500,000 square feet of space (46,450 square meters), the people said.

Barclays current U.S. headquarters is at the former Lehman Brothers building in Times Square. Barclays acquired the property as part of a deal to buy part of the investment bank’s U.S. operations in 2008.

A spokesman for Barclays declined to comment.

Is there a thread for / has there been any word about the site directly west of 55 HY and north of Phase II?

KPF

It seems like a prime piece of the Hudson Yards puzzle, since it fronts Javits and connects to the North end of the High Line, but I can’t seem to find any info about it.

Re: the site south of Javitz, I looked it up on the Dept. of Buildings site, using the address 651 W. 33rd (which is what turns up when you drop a pin on Google Maps) but turned up nothing useful. It appears almost totally inactive, but it’s very possible that I’m missing something, and this sort of research isn’t really my forte.

@YIMBY any idea what the deal is with that site? The more I think about it, the more bizarre it is that we haven’t heard of something major planned there.

I’m pretty sure the Javits Center owns that lot. But not sure what they will ever do with it.

Ah that makes sense. I assume then that Javits uses the site for convention staging, loading/unloading of trucks, overflow parking, etc. I can see how that could be considered a necessity for a convention center, and why Javits might not easily part with it… but it must be some of the most valuable land left in Manhattan. I’d be surprised if someone doesn’t make a Godfather offer before long.

It seems to me that the Javits Center could still use the site for all of those functions and build above it. Hell, that’s what the entirety of Hudson Yards is.
