NEW YORK | Gowanus Canal Rezoning

So the BIG design is still happening? I thought I remember hearing it was scrapped.

They went with a new design. This one I’m excited to see come to fruition!

The instagram post suggest BIG’s design.

There was an original BIG design, and a new design. Looks like the new design above is moving forward.

My question is will they be able to bridge the gap in the waterfront promenade between 175 Third and 420 Carroll? Or are they at the mercy of the Powerhouse Arts building-

Got it. The old design was really good, but the new design looks pretty good also.

That section of the Powerhouse looks like it will connect to the promenade, but it seems they’re waiting for the rest of it to be finished. Not long ago, I saw a project for that small branch of the canal.

The appearance of modern Iranian-style architecture in this part of Brooklyn makes me want to say:

“Gowanus? More like Tehranus!”

Oh wait. Never mind.

Ah that’s right, I remember now. Attaching the rendering, and I still stand by my previous comment:

85 4th ave - not technically Gowanus, but I consider it part of the construction wave

Doesn’t look like the diagram on the fence - and I think that’s good:

This one is finally above ground - the footprint is massive
