Bridges, etc are always renamed. I believe that the Triborough is now called the Robert Kennedy Bridge. The 59th Street Bridge is now the Ed Koch Bridge.
The Tappan Zee Bridge was formally renamed for Governor Wilson, whom I’ve met, and he’s a racist by the way.

I just learned that the BBT has been renamed the Hugh Carey Tunnel.

It’s been that way since the death of the former Governor about six or so years. Everyone I know still calls it the BBT.

Good point Robert. I think people will still call this the Tappan Zee

all traffic has been shifted to the north span of the new bridge. The old TZB is now officially derelict. Demolition will occur alongside work on the southern span of the new bridge.

Crossed today. Second span was closed lmao. Cuomo had to jump the gun for the primary. Heard Tuesday is the new date for the shift.

The 672-foot east span of the former bridge, which is closest to the Westchester side, will be demolished using explosives at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 12.
The original plan was to dismantle the whole bridge piece by piece rather than to use explosives, which officials worried might adversely affect Hudson River fish and wildlife.
But in September, workers dismantling the east span heard a loud popping sound and soon discovered that the structure was unstable. Taking that part of the bridge apart piece by piece could lead to collapse, Tappan Zee Constructors, the company responsible for the demolition, determined.

After the demolition, only a portion of the west span, nearer Rockland County, will remain; it will continue to be dismantled piece by piece, according to Tappan Zee Constructors.

I have to say, I really like the end product aesthetically. It took me awhile to warm up to the renderings, but now that it’s complete, it looks like it belongs. The lights at night make it nothing short of iconic.
