New York, despite having traffic problems, is the largest city in the world that least encourages cars and uses more public transport. São Paulo, Beijing, Dubay, Paris… Most cities use more cars than New York… São Paulo more than half of the citizens have a car and before rush hour the city is already locked. The other cities are much worse off. NYC is an example of efficient mobility despite all the problems it has.
Per NYguy:
Too many pages to read (1,000’s), but some information from the FEIS…
Some may need to read this twice so the question doesn’t keep coming up…
New transit entrances and improvements…
That was an interesting presentation/proposal (though it’s almost 10 years old) as it took what is the current ESC proposal and turned it 90° mostly onto 7th Ave towards Times Square from it’s current 30-34th St path towards Hudson Yards.
As for the FEIS update, since it states that there are no height limits, it would be nice for the 2 towers on Site 2 to be taller than Penn15 (Site 7) even though the chart with the illustrative heights has taken off about 150ft from each tower from when the project was slightly reduced in scope. Site 2 seems to be a promising site for 2 towers since it spans a full block and will have a park midblock.
I did my own proposal study for towers on site 2 and designed a 1600 ft and 1300 ft tower.
They look great! Kinda like Brooklyn Tower.
Yeah currently the FEIS has about 4 supertalls, however as it says those heights are just for informational pruposes, and don’t have height limits. We could see some monsters go up here.
I hope we don’t get any small blocky boring glass monstrosities.
And I hope this project doesn’t take 50 years to develop. What’s the timeframe?
I think it’s by 2033 is the timeline. Also me as well, hopefully we get some giants. Even bigger than 175 Park
Amazing!!
Don’t tear down FDR, turn it into a high line / flood barrier.
We could easily see a 500 M building here. They have the sqft, let’s hope they don’t go for a shorter fatter one. Would love to see your designs go up
And, if possible, a 540+ meter one
Hmm maybe. 1 WTC has over 3.5 million sqft though.
Also I totally forgot about spires which could extend the height quite a bit.
That reminds me, we could see a building with a spire/antenna that could extend to at least 500+ meters.
Also forgive me but, how many sqft is for these new towers?
I don’t know if the developer has locked it in for each one. These could very well be wrong keep that in mind.
Ah okay. So these buildings can potentially be around One Vanderbilt and 175 Park level in terms of floor space
Bigger. 175 park is 2.6 million sqft, and keep in mind it was reduced from 1,642.
Now that would be really interesting to see. These towers could potentially be as large as 30 Hudson Yards or even 270 Park Avenue
DAMNNNNNN, 2.8 Million sqft at site 2B and never mind the other sites. The only thing I ask is can we keep the Gimbels building and the skybridge. I would love to have a macy’s tower style with residential instead of tearing it down along with the skybridge. Also, for Hotel Penn are they preserving columns in the front that says “Hotel Pennsylvania” and that’s why that hasn’t been scaffolded? I also love opening up the passageways again. I hope they get rid of the Hulu theater tho because that would give light over on that side of penn station rather than just the middle.
I also believe in the possibility of a set of 500m towers going up on sites 2A/B, 6, & 8 with the size of their permitted Total GSF. If there are no more changes to those figures, which there is always the possibility of that occurring down the process, those are the new figures from the revised scope of the project.
Considering the high value of sqft in NY, developers will always try to squeeze all the space they can get, so a fat tower is almost inevitable, and the guidelines the towers must follow, even though there is no height limit, somewhat ensure a “fat” tower, atleast at the base portion to a certain height which is calculated in the FEIS for each individual block/site/tower.
One can only ever dream to see their own designs come to life. The taller 1600 ft tower in my own proposal for site 2 uses approximately 2.77 million sqft, so it could be the slightest taller while still following the guidelines within the FEIS, but that just shows that it is definitely possible to reach that height. But really the only actual limiting factor in height is up to the developer, the city, and/or the state.
Keep in mind that the tower positions for Site 2A/B have been flipped since the last FEIS, but they are definitely massive (my own photo from September 2021).
Well 8 depends on if they go residential or not. Who knows, with that much sqft they might just go for the office building just to take advantage.
I feel like your tower could not only stretch to 500 M, but with a tall enough spire, 600 M. Now if you’d actually want that or not is up to you.
Regardless we need some height in this area, hopefully not to many fat towers.
And once this development starts going I could definitely see some sites start going up nearby that aren’t even part of the actual project, but are just taking advantage of the newfound interest in the area.
