Yeah wonder when they’re gonna get on that. Also would love to see 111 West’s lights on.
These lighting projects seem to last forever after the rest of a building is completed. One vanderbilt is a good example of the slowness. I guess it’s low priority because the work can be done without bothering tenants
Baron have you gone up to 1 Vandy’s observation deck recently?
Yeah they take forever. I guess the developers see it as a really low priority thing. Though I think in a modern skyscraper it’s a big part of the nighttime aesthetic.
Nah, I only went once close to opening back in October.

It is taking so, so long for them to fill in the window panes on the north elevation where the hoists were. They left out every panel that covers the slab between floors and now it has been over half a year since the hoist came down and most of the panes are still missing…
Have they completely removed the protective sticker from the building’s facade?
As far as I can tell they gave. We can see the building from our apartment.
Because they’re still working on it I guess. These lighting systems are all unique and done by specialized companies (the same ones that do special lighting for big stadiums, other state of the art stuff, etc). And they take forever, years after the project is “officially” done.
Do they take long just because of the process to install and program the lighting or is there another reason?
I have no idea why they take so long but part of it could be because they don’t start their job until the building is done being constructed. Which would extend the timeline a lot farther than if they worked in conjunction. Though I do suppose it gives them more flexibility and not having to work around other construction crews.
It might just be a lighting effect in regards to why it ‘isn’t lit fully’. As seen from this cam, it looks fully lit. This is just an assumption so it could be that they’re still testing, though.
But when you look at it directly, it looks dim.
Why does it take so long for these things to get finished? One WTC still has a broken beacon.
They don’t work on it during this time of year. So what you’re seeing is stuff that hasn’t been touched since autumn
The beacon apparently was “hit by lightning” and the Port Authority/Durst are lazy and refuse to fix it for some reason. In general, they treat 1 WTC quite poorly and take forever to fix the blown-out illuminated base LEDs.
Isn’t it designed to be hit by lighting? My god someone else needs to be given control of 1WTC, someone who can actually take care of it.
I would also imagine lighting fixtures at the top of buildings are the least of the concerns of these owners. I highly doubt it’s something that would be high on their priority.
