on the CBS 2 NY weather report
I was looking for a place to park my shots -and couldn’t find a Brooklyn Bridge Park Topic…
Anyway here are a couple of the new entrance at pier 1
This will be a welcome improvement.

Turns out the live cam channel I used to see the crash posted a video of it. I was going to post a GIF but this fits the bill.
they had managed to tow it past the manhattan bridge, by the time i was getting home last night.
Unbelievably stupid.
Must have had mechanical issues. The ship hit the bridge and shore while going backwards.
Looks like it was being pushed as there is a tug visible and appearing to push it on the live cam.
Tug could also have had problems. It’s hard to believe a captain or a tug boat pilot would direct the ship to the bridge.
The vessel was leaving Pier 17 to go out to sea, it was not it’s intent to go under the Bridge/north up the East River. Even if it had gone directly under the center of the central span it would’ve still been taller than the bridge span. The tugboat was there to assist the ship with leaving the port at which point it disconnected its line with the ship.
From initial reports, it seems at some point after undocking while in reverse that there was a malfunction with the engines and it either got stuck in reverse and was pulled northward in the East River’s current, or lost engine power and also dragged northward by the current, that’s why it was moving northward with the stern at the front instead of the bow. The tugboat saw what was happening and attempted to speed up to try and reconnect a tugging line but was unable to before the ship mast made contact with the bridge deck.
Yimby has a piece on a new area that opened at the Brooklyn Bridge
I have seen Manhatann bridge half painted. What is going on here. Is the city working to finish the paining ?
It’s been half-painted for a while. I don’t know if its stalled or the city is being lazy and doing it slowly.
