The west tower (or atleast whatever we can see of it) look much better than the east tower, they shouldve just designed 2 towers with the same facade scheme but designed to conform with the 2 different massings.
The City Council has approved two major residential towers north of DeWitt Clinton Park — clearing the way for more than 1,000 apartments, and a development-rights deal expected to generate at least $29.7 million for Hudson River Park and the costly reconstruction of Pier 76.
The DeWitt Clinton Park North proposal would replace two auto dealership properties at 629 W54th Street and 801 11th Avenue with mixed-use towers containing a combined 1,064 apartments, including 286 permanently affordable homes, according to Council Speaker Julie Menin. The applications passed Thursday as part of a package approved by the Council in a 49-0 vote.
To construct the larger buildings, the developers will buy approximately 148,700 square feet of unused development rights — commonly known as air rights — from Hudson River Park. The sale is expected to deliver at least $29.7 million to the Hudson River Park Trust, with much of the money intended for the deteriorating piles beneath Pier 76.
The Council approval completes the City’s land-use review, but the Hudson River Park Trust board must separately approve the sale of the air rights through its public “significant action” process before the transactions can occur. The original environmental review anticipated both towers being completed concurrently following approximately 36 months of construction, although the special permits allow a substantially longer period.
