I suspect that 673 and 675 Fifth will be redeveloped. They’re always empty.
I think that this looks great. All of the new leases will probably expire largely around the same time. Therefore, in twenty years, I think a 2,000’ tower will be built here.
The sky is the second American frontier. The tallest building in the world will be in NYC again one day. Just a matter of time. A 2,000 footer may be the new 1,000 footer in 20 years!
U guys are kidding yourselves - the big money is headed for the sky, yes, but it’s going interstellar --Ramses is going back to outer space where he came from. I predict pyramids on Mars before we get 2000 feet in Manhattan.
I only see the worlds tallest building being built around Penn or Grand Central. Otherwise, I doubt it.
Wow. Bland indeed.
I would like to see the Socony-Mobil Building get a similar treatment. Replace the old, pressed-aluminum facade with something at least up to 21st century tastes, and yes, that would mean replacing the open arched vestibule with, you know, an actual, proper lobby.
That building is landmarked. Nothing is going to change on its facade.
The facade on Socony-Mobil is the whole reason why it’s landmarked.
@robertwalpole @DeSelby It’s also the ugliest thing on planet earth. Just because you can landmark something doesn’t mean you should.
I like it!
I agree. I don’t like it either.
240 CPS is an even more problematic landmark. It looks like sh.it, and yet, we’re stuck with it.
In fact, not only was 240 designated a city landmark in 2002, but it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
There are far worse buildings on the registry. This one wouldn’t be as problematic if it wasn’t in such a prime lot on CPS/columbus intersection
