NEW YORK | 660 5th Avenue | 485 FT | 39 FLOORS (Renovation)

I agree

Socony-Mobil is a much nicer example of the pressed aluminum facade style than 666 Fifth, which is why S-M was landmarked and 666 was not. But it was divisive when built, critic Lewis Mumford said it looked like the building caught measles.

Horrible. It should be de-landmarked and reskinned. Just because something is different doesn’t mean it should be preserved forever. And those tiny windows are terrible for any use nowadays.

I think that the crappy NYDN building nearby on 42nd is also labdmarked.

This project was more robbed than the Dunbar Armored robbery. I miss that supertall design

I could understand smaller windows in one of those midcentury housing projects, maybe other government buildings holding sensitive contents, but not in any self-respecting Midtown Manhattan skyscraper.

Should have been torn down

I think that it will be in 25 years. It looks way better than the prior iteration and is fine for now.

Demolition? Why?

Nothing I just think it’s a waste of a site. Regardless that’s not happening now. The renovation looks great.

Most of this part of Fifth should not be touched IMO. I’d like to see more development on certain plots. As per ACRIS, Yeung Shi Chin owns 673-677 5th. Sadly, they were once all nice but have been stripped of their details. Since 673 and 675 are perennially vacant, I wonder if he will redevelop the site when Micrisoft’s lease ends.

I think that a tower like the 27 story one that Stern initially designed for 14 Fifth would be amazing here.

I know these lots are across from the 2 developments you’ve mentioned this on but wouldn’t it be better to post those comments here since they aren’t directly related to the developments you posted it on? Or some other general NY development thread that I’ve just never come across.

I just thought it’d be better to post discussions like that somewhere else instead of “bumping” the threads with unrelated information/updates.

LOL, the paint is hardly dry already we want to demolish it.

What building is that?

It seems to just be a neighboring building, but the shadow on it is of 660 5th.
