Maybe they could’ve done a diagonal column to transfer the load, allowing them to hide it behind glass and make it appear uniform from the outside? Would’ve made for a slightly more awkward layout for one apartment, I suppose.

It’s possible but to your point it would’ve made for a strange corner condition, which would’ve also created a strange condition for the glazing that would eventually cover it. It’s also possible that the angle wouldn’t have been enough for the shear factor of the node where the column meets the shear wall, so the angling of the shear wall would’ve need to continue down more in a shallower/steeper angle.

A good recent example that shows walking through stepping and angling of the column is actually at 8 Carlisle.

Thanks to you both for your insights!

Are the same load xfer principals in play on the setback level on the other side @TKDV or it this unrelated?

Yep, they are the same principles. The lower widening of the column for both the relocation of the upper column and cantilever of the floor slab and the widening of the upper column even more for the relocation of the upper column and compensation of the dropped deeper roof/terrace slab cantilever.

Your welcome. Here is something else you may find interesting and/or helpful. It is called ZERO RFI - a completely new concept in how to design & construct buildings: driven primarily by AI.

In the world of construction and AEC industry in general your question is similar to what is called an RFI.

The RFI (request for information) is often considered one of the biggest obstacles causing some of the current productivity problems in the construction industry.

Here is a link if you wish to take a look into what I believe the future of the AEC industry. Enjoy.

Thank you!

This is BIG - something few people in this field are currently aware of - the company is only one WEEK old. :grimacing:

Here is a chance for you (and many others in the field) to be a ‘first movers’ in this breakthrough AEC concept for the constuction industry.

KP Reddy is a true visionary.:star_struck:

BTW. I am no expert, and do not work in the AEC - a pure laymen fascinated by everything Architecture.
