I swear to god that exact frame is in Spiderman 2. With all of those American flags

That many flags is poor taste. They’re not meant to be decoration but I guess times have changed.

Lol since when is being patriotic poor taste?? Smh

When it’s being gauche.

It looks like Saks is trying to emulate one of those iconic Childe Hassam flag paintings. Larger and fewer would have worked better IMHO.

The flags are the least of their concerns. Have you seen what they did inside? The interior designers tossed another iconic NY setting on the trash heap with their airport chic / luxury outlet “freshener”

It’s been a hot minute since I was in Saks.

The arched widows are a great look; both on the exterior & interior. However, the arched window interiors will be a challenge to get the right look/function for blinds or drapery.

Those curtains in this photo posted by Mackensen well illustrated that point. Not to mention: curtains are not done as often these days.

Those curtains don’t quite “drape” nicely…

There is a space between the curtainwall panel and the interior wall build up with a shade and curtain track that is horizontal/flat, the curtains/shades dont follow the arc of the window frame.

The curtains on the window do not fall perfectly ‘vertical’ from the pocket above. They appear to pulled slightly forward and ‘draped’ over the window sill. That may be only a distortion in the photo.

Something looks off there with that curtain. Perhaps if the curtains were only ‘sill height’ they would drape straight down (perpendicular) and look better.

That entire interior build-out of the wall also seems excessive: lots of interior square footage lost for a thick/hollow sheet rock wall.

I am sort of nit-picking - but not liking anything about that interior “model apartment”. :pensive:

I’m really sorry to hear that! I worked there in 1975 and 1976 while working on my masters degree at Pratt Institute. It was a beautiful store. I guess no more. In the immortal words from Queen. Another one bites the dust!

Modern Architecture with Arched Windows: the perfect combination. Contemporary yet, with a hint of Architectural Classicism. This building has all the fundamental attributes: solidness, usefulness and beauty - the Vitruvian Triad.

Here is a fun, and informative video on some age old principals of architectural classicism.

All the photos on this thread are good to see as this building nears completion.

I am once again reminded of the Vitruvian Triad: Firmitatis, Utilitatis, Venustatis:

Given this definition, 520 5th has “loveliness”.
venustatis - Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Noun
venustātis f

  1. genitive singular of venustās (“loveliness, comeliness”)

Glad to see this is rising a little faster, and great shots! I have a feeling this will look better in reality than the renderings
