I still like that jewelry district building.
Agreed, Gem Tower can bedazzle when evening sun reflects off it.
Nice photo by 5Bfilms from above. I had an odd observation looking at this photo : look how much usable floor space is taken-up by those concrete service cores for elevators, stairs, etc.
I actually think the requirement for 2 means of ‘egress’ is an outdated building code. All that expense and wasted space for something that could be done with a ‘single fire staircase’ rather than two means of egress.
Pardon the random pontification.

Im confused by this, means of egress does not include the/an elevator, in the instance of almost all the tall and narrow buildings in NYC they do not have 2 separated fire stairs independent of one another, they use fire partitioned scissor stairs for egress to save space. There is no wasted space.
Also, means of egress (if it be 2 or more means of egress depending on the size of the building) is an EXTREMELY important building code, brought on about and rewritten by the events of 9/11, there’s nothing outdated about it.
Yeah, I used a fire escape to walk down from the 15th floor during the blackout of 2003. There were two fire escapes in the building (a 17-story building) and they were pretty crowded. I can imagine what a bottleneck it would have been with only one fire escape.
Love this building
Me too. The arched windows is the feature I like most; one of many great features of what will become another ICONIC work of architecture in NYC.
When I think of great works of Architecture; Falling Water & Cranbrook Acadamy of Arts comes to mind…
I would go as far as saying this building rates up there with those esteemed works of Capital A Architecture.

Speaking of Cranbrook - this is a fantastic walking tour. I will someday make a pilgrimage…
And at only 1,000 feet, it will be visible mostly to people walking on the street within a few blocks of it. Such is New York.
Due to the continued narrowing, I find it quite plausible that this could top out in late Sept-October. The stepped form of the crown will make for another nice focal point on the skyline.
It will be interesting to see the price points for these apartments.
