Yes, I see the columns changing as they go up, Unfortunately, it is the only design element.
This rendering does not look 1000’+ …would be very surprised if it was. Painful compared to what could have been.
Well that’s disappointing.
Was a new permit filed? Is the 1115 height the roof height or the crane height for the construction?
I believe crane heights are filed with the FAA not DOB.
I haven’t seen the permit, so I can’t say for sure. From the renders, it doesn’t look as if this new design is taller than the previous one. If anything, it looks much shorter.
Has any residential project in the financial district managed to survive development hell without coming out a severely deformed shell of its former potential
This new proposal would be cheaper than the previous design. Maybe that’s why the switch when the project changed hands.
This is essentially another 50 West.
Good skyline filler.
Other major first world cities would be creaming their pants!
It is morning in New York! America!
No they probably wouldn’t. It’ll be nice ofc but it’s nothing special.
This is essentially a copy of Panorama Tower in Miami, which is their tallest building.
I think this fits the character of the neighborhood much better than the previous iteration, as beautiful as it was
How incredibly disappointing.
I like the redesign better. Now we’ll see if it ever gets built. It’s gonna be a skinny tower though with only 221k sqft.
I don’t hate the redesign, I like the emphasis on the verticality with the narrowing columns. And I also like the crown, it’s simple but I enjoy the staggered holes and them being lit up. But the original design in my opinion would have instantly been an icon in its own right, a very sharp and intelligent take on the art-deco style. As I mentioned before, it seems FiDi is where good architecture goes to die.
I’m not heartbroken because I never thought there was much chance the original design would rise. This box is handsome, thoughtfully proportioned, and a hell of a lot better than a hole in the ground.
What a massive downgrade. It’s ugly. The original design would have been a masterpiece.
Can we have a talk about downtown? Why can’t it get it together? This isn’t nowhere USA. It has a lot of transit, it’s a very popular area, the new office buildings are very nice. Why is it sucking so badly?
Or is this just a certain perspective? Cause from my POV the already limited amount of large projects (especially in comparison with Midtown), is always either cut down, value engineered, dragged through development hell for half a decade or cancelled outright
I think a part of it is NYC has several burgeoning CBDs all competing for resources. Downtown Brooklyn and LIC all get by with some mediocre looking architecture but stuff is getting rented and sold. So for FiDI, it sometimes has to suffer with average and subpar as well.
I think the real investment downtown should be in converting outdated older (like 20s-50s) business stock into residential. Which is happening.
