NEW YORK | 350 Park Avenue | 1,575 FT | 64 FLOORS

Uhh yes there is. As can be seen in this tower. I wasn’t doubting the quality of the building. Just the design.

Will it be an icon tho? It’s going to be overshadowed by almost all sides. And I never said anything about about tiers or if another city was a comparison.

There’s nothing in the world like it, and it keeps getting better and better!

This render/iteration has very strange proportions, thus making it difficult to properly diagram, where as the first version had simple proportions and measurements. The render makes it seem very skinny (which doesn’t sound conducive) and very wide.

With “only” 1.7 sf, the portions that have been depicted may, in fact, be somewhat skinny. We have no idea how thick the base is.

Well I wasn’t necessarily comparing the strange proportions to the amount of square feet as it’s clear the proportions would be the same as the first version since it’s the same amount of sqft regardless of what we are seeing in the render. I was more so referencing the overall proportions of the building as depicted. The original version was built in intervals of 10’, a proportion that this version does not conform to otherwise it would not line up with what is being represented in the render.

I think 270 Park is a masterpiece, but overall Foster + Partners’ NYC office tower designs have gotten pretty formulaic and uninspired. Many of them are just variations of the 425 Park concept: discrete glass volumes of office space separated by large amenity floors, with a side core structure to maximize floor space. They tweak certain design elements for each brief to varying degrees of success, but the basic concept remains the same.

I guess F+P figures if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. After all, they’ve been very successful getting NYC skyscraper commissions lately—Chase Tower, Citadel Tower, 2 WTC, 425 Park, 50 HY, 15 Penn and the other Penn Vornado sites, the PABT. Office tenants and landlords seem to love their designs. But as a skyscraper nerd I’m craving some variety. 270 Park is a standout precisely because it takes the Foster formula and merges it with some Art Deco influences. I’d like to see F+P do more work like that.

@DeSelby I agree that it’s becoming a sort of norm for F+P but I feel like it’s just (but for Penn 15) an issue of the location of the site and how much of the overall block it takes up.

Take this model with a grain of salt as I had to make assumptions, but this design isn’t really that different from it’s predecessor, it’s still got the 4 different volumes. Personally, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a set of luggage stacked on top of each other. lol. It also looks like an extremely odd version of Torre Cepsa (Caja Madrid) another work of Foster’s.

Does it bare resemblance to The One in Toronto? But thicker

Mm, yes, I can definitely see the resemblance to One Bloor West in the instance of overall massing, just definitely not facade appearance, good point :+1:.

In my opinion, this new rendering is ok. Not exciting to me though. I would prefer the previous rendering cause this one makes it look like every other plain office building that’s going up. At least the previous one had a bit of flavor with the stacked diamond look.

I know not everything is set in stone but if this was to be the final product, this would not be a building I would be too excited about going up and that’s saying something since I was originally excited to see this building in the skyline.

It honestly looks like a copy and paste of one of the renderings from Vornado

I’ve always liked this little, old building on 52nd which will be on the north side of Mr. Griifen’s new Cathedral of Finance.

I also quite like Sedesco’s newly-constructed little gem on the south side of the new tower.

The new design is… fine. But the original design was much more… original. It would have been iconic and really added something visually striking to the skyline. This will not; this will just blend in as another glass box tower. Above average, but not iconic. It’s a shame.

The old design might not have been cost-effective.

This site is about the same size as those of the buildings on either side of it, but it will be dramatically taller than either.

While I’m disappointed that we wont get the original design, I really like the new rendering. Cant wait to see more. This is definitely a modernized version of Torre Cepsa.

That’s a great building.

This is far better.

Hopefully the west face is less visibly jarring than the previous design (although, I really didn’t mind it that much. )
