Honestly, it’s a relief to see civic architecture getting a little class…for the sake of the incarcerated (as well as their families), those that have to work there every day, and for the rest of us who hopefully never have to deal with criminal justice system. Or maybe it inspires us to engage with it a little more…
A humane jail system is generally beneficial for those incarcerated. I can assume these jails will also have programming and other services to help prisoners (such as mental health, etc.). All of this can improve outcomes and reduce recidivism, helping reduce the crime rate in the area.
This will be a major step up from the conditions in Rikers.
