I personally don’t really see the appeal of the asymmetrical version — every aspect of this tower screams 20th century glamour (20s Art Deco, 60s Modernism, even a bit of 80s PoMo with the tinted glass), but the asymmetric massing was kind of a generically 2010s aesthetic. The symmetrical setbacks really tie nicely into the overall retro look.
I haven’t even noticed that it’s the unsymmetric version. So cool!
The image on the website is encoded in some weird colour profile that doesn’t display properly – I’ve saved it in a different format and a lot more detail is now visible!
Of course, that’s why the only images of this iteration are ones accidentally leaked by third parties, while the official renderings were released to all the major news outlets… to “drum up publicity”.
that rendering was all over the internet when the tower was first proposed, you just haven’t been paying attention
That rendering above first surfaced in April of 2024. You’re thinking of this rendering, which was anonymously sent to Yimby and only spread by a few other architecture/real estate-specific sites directly referencing the Yimby article. None of the major news outlets carried this rendering because there was no official source — so much for publicity.
I don’t know what you’re arguing girl, you’re the one who posted a fake “third party” image attributing it to the actual tower
but the initial design was all over the internet and not just here, so it did contribute to publicizing it
Well then I’m sure that every time a skyscraper design has ever changed during the planning process, it was actually a grand rugpull conspiracy specifically to fool skyscraper fans everywhere. Untold amounts of money spent on architecture work to create fake designs to leak to Yimby — they’ve played us like fiddles!
Looking at that rendering there is a part of me that wishes there was more uniformity to the diamonds on the east and west facades.
That shot deserves to be in a book!
Thanks!!
Just curious @tjr101…how expensive were the drinks?
Haha, thankfully I didn’t have to worry about the bill. It’s a nice spot though and honestly wasn’t expecting that view. I just had to take the pic to post here.
