I’m honestly surprised how quickly the concrete work increased after it passed the first setback and the fireproofing to an extent.
I’m really excited about this.
I’m waiting to see glass.
I’m glad I just captured the 4 cranes poking in the skyline last weekend! I don’t think NYC has seen four large tower cranes for one massive tower since the Twin Towers. Please correct me if im wrong
If this is true, this would be incredible. I’m most excited about the lighting on this tower.
Has the project surpassed the height of the old 270 Park (Union Carbide) Building yet?
I dont believe so yet, but it is very close to, the steel should be around 695’ right now, Union Carbide was 707’ tall so the next set of columns installed should push it over that.
I would love if this got some sort of lighting like the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. They have like 4 different lighting variations using different types of lights and LED screens. They sometimes display video footage from artists or local city inhabitants. I don’t know if a bank would consider this but a software company seemed ok with it.
This unusually warm weather is a trip; when I left my place this morning I regretted taking my hoodie.
Weather can change quickly, but its already mid-February.
In terms of slowing construction down, is it more rain or snow that you were referring to?
Actually, the color strip on top of Comcast 1 hadn’t last for long as the developers thought it didn’t look right. The one strip of color was seen for a bit, but then it became a mixed color mess on top. There was a renovations to improve the lighting (which I guess did not include that top row) in 2014, and now the WHOLE crown lights up with LED lights as a part of a new renovation. The white on top of Comcast 1 has a warmer look that matches the lantern of Comcast 2. And just days after the Super Bowl, a blue strip of light has been tested on the west face of the crown.
Are they building a floor per week? If so, will they reach the next setback in about two months?
At the moment no, but generally yes, the floors before the current mech/outrigger floor were taking approx slightly over a week. My previous April prediction to reach the setback has changed due to the lengthy bit of time spent on the m/o floor and the fact that the cranes are being removed now and not after the setback. So yes 2 months/a May timeframe seems more plausible to include the current “delays”, but we could always be surprised by fast work, I just don’t think that will happen.
Thanks!
The steel can be seen from Staten Island! Luckily this spot is just located down the street from my sister, so I can watch it grow from here!
Spotted a lone façade panel (the dark rectangular object) on the 3rd floor. You heard it here first!
This is from just now, but the pieces showed up yesterday, there is another hiding slightly in the shade to the right of the visible panel.
You’re the man!
That’s awesome!!!
