NEW YORK | 262 Fifth Ave | 860 FT | 60 FLOORS

This thing will look like a stick once the construction elevator is removed.

One side looks like a mile high braided curtain and the other looks like someone squashed 1 Chase Plaza in MS Paint. I preferred the renderings where it looked like someone stacked a bunch of Xbox 360s on top of each other.

There used to be a great view of the Empire State Building from there…

More on this (IMHO silly) objection regarding sight lines to the Empire State Building. This is a great video: covers a lot of other factors in addition the the sight line issue. There is also an ‘honorable mention’ to Yimby. :star_struck:

This project has officially reached the real estate equivalent of ‘Celebrity’ status. :star_struck:

Well deserved too…

I’m usually quite forgiving of controversial projects, but this one’s turning out worse than I’d hoped. If only they could tear it down and put a new park on the site as an apology to New Yorkers.

Lack of buyer interest = no $ to finish.

This building is such an eyesore, what a shame.

In term of marketing; this one is actually turning out better than anyone would have hoped.

This tower is now officially a “branded” tower. This building now has ‘celebrity’ status: regardless of the aesthetic merits of the Architectural Design.

The sale price per square foot will be significantly higher because of the “branded” status that this building has achieved due to the extensive media hype and news coverage.

There are some down sides to this branding aspect; and this guy covers the good/bad/ugly of Real Estate Branding in this short video. Enjoy.

He’s talking about actual brands, like Armani, Aston Martin, etc. This building may have some infamy for blocking views of the Empire State Building but I don’t see that as a value add.

There is no stampede to buy in this building.

I passed by yesterday, didnt take any pics because I was in a rush, but thisdefinitely isn’t on hold, work is just progressing at a snail’s pace (if even that) as it always has.

Barnhillj is right, there are no branded (atleast not that im aware of and that dont include hospitality based brands) residential towers in NYC, this tower does not constitute a branded tower just because it gets media attention, which it doesnt even really. Any and all media/press/feedback of this tower from the general public which is always being made apparent on Reddit and IG has always been negative.
